Pyrus calleryana – Callery Pear
Beautiful tree with early spring flowers that cover the tree and grow in masses. It can be impressive unless you know it’s darker side. Imported from Asia and originally starting as a very common landscaping tree for it’s well behaved upright growth and it’s white flowers.
It gets a little quarter inch pear fruit that birds to eat, especially when their preferred food runs out. They then poop the seeds out while they are flying, spreading this tree all over the place.
It is very invasive, often growing in such clusters to totally shade out and compete for sun. Native species find it hard to survive and sometimes die out. It can be seen all over the wild areas and along roads and highways. It’s so invasive, that it has been banned in the US and can no longer be purchased. It’s best to cut this tree down, even as beautiful it is.
