The woodlands and hillsides are exploding with color now across the state and the third edition of the ODNR Wildflower Bloom Report can help you find them. This report comes out every week through the spring wildflower parade. It is published by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of State Nature Preserves and highlights what is in bloom around the state each week. Also make sure to read the past editions (1, 2).

This week features more spectacular species including Dwarf Larkspur (one of my favorites), Virginia Bluebells, Rue Anemone, Twinleaf, and Purple Cress among many others. Get out there quick because these ephemerals don’t last long. Some of the best places in the state are the Ohio River Bluffs, Arc of Appalachia parks, and Clifton Gorge.

I must remind you that all of these species are protected and interfering with some are even punishable by law with stiff penalties. Please respect our treasures and take nothing but pictures. Even picking them can kill them and most do not transplant well anyway and rely on the soil and conditions that they grow in. Also try to stay on the trails as nearby you may be trampling on next weeks bloom.
