Maumee Bay State Park is a beautiful resort on the southwestern shore of Lake Erie, just east of Toledo, Ohio. I am camping here for the weekend, and Saturday morning, I stopped at the Nature Center. This Nature Center is really good with lots of good education about the animals, plants, and wetlands you may encounter in the area.

Nature Center.
This is a good start to a story.
The Lake Erie basin here has a great legacy and needs protection.
It was once much larger.
Then man decided to drain the swamp.
It was prosperous for a bit. Man, not nature.
Some of the extinct species.
This place is different in all seasons.
American Badger.
Coyote.
Red Fox.
Muskrat.
Mink. The ones I’ve seen in Ohio are dark brown.
Woodchuck.
The wetland invasives.
And the forest invasives.
What have we lost and how can you help.
Some stuff you can examine closer.
Another Red Fox.
Building the boadwalk.
Another invasive arrives.
We realized our mistakes.
About the fish.
Some of the species.
How the wetlands help.
Eastern Fox Snake.
Pheasant.
There are some great displays here.
Saw-Whet Owl.
Some artifacts from the past.
More artifacts.
Some bird nests.
And more nests.

Midland Painted Turtle.
Green Frog.

An old lighthouse lense.
It’s cool glass.
