Raccoon Creek State Park, just west of Pittsburgh, PA is one of Pennsylvania’s largest parks at 7,572 acres. It features a 101 acre lake with boat rentals, a nice beach, a 172 site campground with flush toilets and showers, a backpacking trail with campsites, 10 cabins, and a lodge which can sleep 10. There are lots of hiking trails, horse trails, and a backpacking loop. Numerous picnic areas are scattered throughout the park as well. It’s 10 miles from the Pavilion at Star Lake amphitheater, at which we were to see Dave Matthew’s Band play on Friday night with my hiking buddy, Wes. I was here for four nights.
Friday was our Dave Matthew’s Band concert but we hiked in the Wildflower Reserve on the east side of the park. After that, we stopped for some pizza at Minton’s Valley Boys Pizzeria on US 30 to grab some food before the show.
