I visited this place in the spring and knew then I had to come back later to see it again. Chaparral Prairie State Nature Preserve, in Adams County, Ohio, is a remnant prairie which is to say, it was spared from the last ice age and is a remnant of the vast midwest prairies. There are amazing wildflowers here. When I was here last time, they had just completed a prescribed burn, which they do in order to preserve the prairie and keep it from becoming a forest. Now, it was alive with beauty.
