Park Resources – Gorge Metro Park

Location: North of Akron, Ohio at Address 1160 Front St., Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio.

Gorge Metro Park is a sight to see. There are trails on both sides of the Cuyahoga River with dramatic cliffs and scenic views of the river and reservoir. The huge dam, which was an old power generating facility, is pretty dramatic as well, but is slated for removal in the next few years. The removal of the dam will restore the natural flow of the river and will re-expose the Cuyahoga Falls(which are buried under the reservoir behind the dam) from which the town got it’s name. The area also has a history of an amusement park, which is no longer there, as well as a recessed cave currently called Mary Campbell Cave, but is in the process of being renamed to Old Maid’s Kitchen.
