After hiking at Whipp’s Ledges, I drove over to Worden’s Ledges. These ledges were part of an old homestead in the mid 1800s where Hiram Worden settled with his new wife. The ledges are just a short hike from the parking lot and the trail is just a short hike of less than a mile. I also continued down the hill on a bridle trail and walked a little bit of a trail called the Carriage Trail to the Brooklyn Exchange Cabin almost to State Road. I turned around and went past the bridle trail I came down, and took a trail called Ledge Lake Trail back up the hill toward Ledge Lake. Below the lake, I turned left on another bridle trail back to the Worden’s Ledges Trail and back to the parking area. Total was exactly 4 miles.

Worden’s Ledges aren’t as big as Whipp’s Ledges, however there are some interesting carving in the rock created by Hiram’s son-in-law, Noble Stuart, who lived on the land in the early 1900s with his wife, Hiram’s daughter Nettie. Her name is carved into one of the stones. Other carvings include several faces, a clipper ship, and the most stunning of all, a sphynx, which would greet you as you enter the ledges going clockwise. All of the carvings are grouped near the center of the cliffs.

The trail begins near the parking lot
White diamond signs on trees with the face of a racoon also mark the trail
The ledges are only a short distance from the parking lot. This is from the top
Soon came to the end of the cliff top and was able to round the corner to approach the front
That ice is coming from inside the rock
Ty Cobb
There are several carvings here, hard to see
Clipper Ship
George Washington
You start seeing faces in everthing
Nettie, the carver’s wife
Vandalism
See the face on the left corner?
I thought there might be something here, but it’s covered by snow
This top knob looks unnatural
Spynx
Looking back
Unnamed Bridle Trail leading to the Carriage Trail
Tulip Trees
I thought this was funny even though it’s vandalism
The unnamed bridle trail intersection with Carriage Trail
Gold diamond with Wheel is Carriage Trail
Turn right before the Brooklyn Exchange Cabin
Intersection of Ledge Lake Trail, not labelled but brown diamond with squirrel
Left turn on another unnamed bridle trail
This old cherry is about 4 ft in diameter
And it’s still alive
This looks like a crypt, at the parking lot/picnic area
another crypt? right near the other
