20200114 – Slate Run Metro Park

Date: 01/14/2020 – Distance: 7.9 mi – Elapsed Time: 3.5 hr – Ascent: 469 ft – Descent: 486 ft – Difficulty: Medium

This was my second (first) visit to Slate Run Metro Park near Canal Winchester. I wanted to finish out trail which I didn’t cover the first visit. This park is pretty diverse, with wetland, prairie, creeks, and wooded ravines. There’s also a Historic Farm which is very educational. I’ve seen lots of animals in this park and even caught a glimpse of a mink this time at Buzzard’s Roost Lake. The wooded trails have very large hardwoods and are very well manicured with fine crushed limestone. The wetland area on the west side has grass paths and weren’t muddy at all. There weren’t much waterfowl when I was there but I’m sure in the summer that area is very active. There are four major parking areas to park, and I opted this time to park at Buzzard’s Roost Picnic Area which is centrally located near the lake. All parking areas have picnic shelters and restrooms at them as well.

Trails are marked with these color coded symbols which match the colors on the park maps supplied at the trailheads
Most of the trail start and end points have named signs as well

This is where I saw the mink. Wish I was able to get a picture of it.
