The Shadbush Trail goes from the lodge to the campground and is about 2 miles in length. There are some hills, but overall it’s not too bad.. I started at the lodge. The trailhead here is between the lodge and the golf pro shop, near the entrance to the golf course. You can park in either parking lot. You can also start from the other end and park at the campground store or walk down the campground road (R-6) if you are staying at the campground.
The trail begins by descending a hill toward the lake. At the lake, the trail turns left and follows the shore for about a mile.
There are some rocks and good views of the lake along this trail.
About half way along the trail, there is a horse trail (purple) crossing and a stream which you have to ford along with Waypoint Marker N. Make sure you follow the signs for the Shadbush Trail because the horse trail will lead you on a much longer hike.
From Waypoint Marker N to Waypoint Marker M, it’s about a quarter of a mile of mostly uphill of about 200 feet in elevation gain. At Waypoint Marker M, the trail levels out and follows a ridge to the campground.
From here, I took a short hike over to the campground store, which is left from the trail end, then returned to this trailhead and retraced the trail back to the other end.
